Daily devotion – Prayer – God’s way

Pastor Keith   -

John 17:1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,”

Prayer is not the way to get God to do your will here on earth. Prayer is the way to get God’s will done here on earth. Once we acknowledge this and follow this, you will find yourself praying in an entirely different manner.

In our text this is exactly what Jesus is doing. “Glorify Me,” Jesus prays, “so that You might be glorified – even if it means being crucified on a Cross at Calvary.”

On the face value people might think this rather macabre – but that is opposite to the real truth of the matter. For on the other side of the Cross is a crown – joy unspeakable, full of glory. We often only see a very short-sighted view of things. But God sees the next million million years…and on.

Jesus allowing the Father to be glorified through Him ultimately bought a Bride – the Church – for Him for all eternity!

When a Christian finally gets the big picture and stops dictating to God, “Do it my way”, then prayer becomes the very power of God in that persons life.

We cannot give orders to the Lord God Almighty Creator of Heaven and earth about how things should be done and then complain when we don’t get what WE ordered!

God knows what is best for us at all times, and for eternity!
