Daily devotion – what God hates
Proverbs 6: 16 These six things the LORD hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
Each of these things are acts and declarations of selfish independence without concern or care for any other or the damage that is carried out by the selfish party. Each of these say, “I am going to solve the problem. I can spin the truth. I can take care of it with my clever words, killer instinct and my manipulation to have things go my way – regardless of the damage to others!”
God hates this type of thinking because He wants us to be totally dependent upon Him. Rebellion is when you don’t care what God wants or expects or commands you, you are going to do it your way. Whereas God says, “If you are dependent upon Me,” then “I will see you through this and change it all for good!” When you refuse to heeds God’s Word on the matter it is a very slippery slope that you begin to fall down. But if that is happening in your life now you can be sure such an attitude did not happen overnight!
Such a lifestyle only reflects a constant neglect of your relationship with God and your hardness of heart has come about over a period of time. You may be in Church, but you are not in Christ. You may serve at the Church but you are not serving at the very alter of your heart before God – it’s all just lip service!
God always seeks His children and expects them to trust Him. To look to Him and to obey Him no matter. But to do that you must deny yourself and take up your cross daily. Only then can you be a follower of Christ!
God wants you to lean on Him. He hates pride because He knows what a cancerous work it will do in your heart. It will limit what He can do or give you.
Finally, don’t blame the Church….remember Christ is the Head of the Church. It is His body and it is the sin of one’s own selfish pride that makes one turn foolishly on the body of Christ for their own failings.
Surrender, humility, repentance lay on the path to seeing your heart soften, and God’s blessing fall once again on you and joy re-established in your heart.
A follower of Christ is a surrendered heart not a defiant one. But the choice is yours with outcomes that are between blessing or the judgment of God.
