Daily devotion – a wedding miracle

Pastor Keith   -

In the book of Ephesians chapter 5: 22-33, the Apostle Paul details the how God holds marriage so high in His sights. Marriage has taken a great hit in our modern society with people treating it with contempt, disdain or ignoring it completely and simply living together.

Adultery, fornication, and lasciviousness have run rampant and infiltrated also the Church of Jesus Christ. Marriage in the eyes of God is the very epitome of the Churches relationship with Jesus Christ. Just look at the following scriptures detailing the roles and responsibilities of the husband and the wife to one another:

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

I have highlighted some of the scriptures that clearly reveal the great association marriage has with our relationship with our Lord.

We as believers and His Church must continue to fight against the tide that is belittling marriage, and all attempts to weaken that which Christ calls holy!

This week I ask you to pray for all marriages here at CCSH especially your own. Examine it and lay it against these clear instructions in God’s Word as to what marriage is in God’s eyes.

Maybe your marriage is struggling or in a crisis at the moment. Call on God, seek His help and the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and lay your life down to see the blessing of God once again on that which He calls holy.

Remember Jesus Christ defeated death and rose again from the grave on the third day. In your eyes your marriage may be in its death throes, no matter to the power grace and might of the Holy Spirit. Seek God to raise it from its present state to be resurrected and alive once again.

Love, respect, forgiveness, grace, are that which make a marriage as God intended. But each one of these we do not have in and of ourselves. But each one of these God can and has made available to you so that you can pass them on to another as He has granted you.

The first miracle of Jesus as a sign of who He was, the Messiah, was at a wedding in Cana – let God bring another miracle in your own marriage today!

Remember, he or she who has been forgiven much, loves much!
