Daily devotion – angels watching over us
It was early morning one winter, somewhere around 2 or 3 am and I was heading from our first home in Dunsborough to Bunbury, some 52 miles to travel one way. Work had been heavy and I had a shift where I had to be at work before anyone else so I could approve an export shipment to commence loading for overseas.
On the road to Busselton I began to doze off due to both weariness and the early start. The road from Dunsborough to Busselton has several small bridges over canals that drain into the ocean. This one morning I dozed and the vehicle I was driving commenced to head toward a bridge pylon, with the vehicle all of a sudden violently swaying, as the rear wheels had connected with the gravel apron and it seemed disaster was about to occur.
When all of sudden it seemed as though a giant hand grabbed the rear of my vehicle and settled it back safely on the road just meter’s from impacting the first bridge pylon. It woke me up to say the leas! But it was the way my car corrected. It was not me, it was definitely God’s hand keeping me safe!
The Bible says, “He will give His angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways.” Psalm 91:11
A secret agent is someone who seeks to protect his country, his prime minister or president against evil forces that are opposed to the one he serves. In Australia it’s ASIO that does this work.
But God has His own secret agents – His angels. Unseen and unrecognized by the world, they never fail in their appointed tasks.
A lot has been written about angels – sadly not much of it based on the Bible but on popular legends. But I know, and Helen can tell you of her encounters as well, angels are indeed real!
God commands them to watch over each of us. Only in eternity will we know how many situations they prevented, or how often they kept Satan’s malicious spirits at bay.
In the meantime, we can take comfort in their presence, and thank God for the love He expresses for us through their service!
Thank You Lord!
