Daily devotion – little foxes of distraction

Pastor Keith   -

Distracted by distractions

The devil seeks continually to distract us away from serving God. Anything, some small matter, incident or trial, that will shift our thoughts, our passions away from growing in our knowledge and obedience to God.

Distractions are things we don’t go seeking. Nor are they objects or matters that we usually have dealings with. They just come from nowhere seemingly and seize our world for a time.

Song of Solomon 2:15 – Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.

Hudson Taylor thought of the “little foxes” that may ruin our relationship with Jesus Christ. “The enemies may be small, but the mischief done great… And how numerous the little foxes are! Little compromises with the world; disobedience to the still small voice in little things; little indulgences of the flesh to the neglect of duty; little strokes of policy; doing evil in little things that good may come; and the beauty, and the fruitfulness of the vine are sacrificed!”

The devil wants us to occupy our time with things that arise in our lives, distractions, when we should give them over to the Lord to deal with. For too often we shift our focus away from God to ‘sort’ out that which is causing me to be distracted.

Time wasted in chasing little foxes is time gone that we never get again. Time when we should have been in the middle of God’s will instead of deviating off the path. It’s hard some times to not fix the interruption, to not deal with the matter, the distraction – ourselves.

But we are reminded over and over in the word of God to live our lives in the full service and obedience of our Lord.

Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

A soldier in battle has no thought or occupation with anything but the battle he is currently fighting to win. Maybe today Satan has drawn you and your family away from the things of God where once you were consumed and committed totally.

Stop where you are at today and in prayer re set the compass of your life, of your thoughts and of your passion, and of your time, and place yourself once again in the hands of God as His bondservant totally.

Don’t let the little foxes waste your time and steal away the victories and joy that a servant of the Lord has been destined to live.
