Daily devotion – time alone
On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night – Psalm 63:6
Time alone…..
When people today have ‘time alone’, they really are not alone as we would presume. For in their hands or by their side will be their mobile phone. Its constant connect to them has been now seen as a real addiction in our modern society for people to ‘have to look at their phone’ every few minutes.
So, people now never really have time alone. In their ears are the ‘buds’ that continue the infusion of music or whatever to ensure they never have to really be in the truest sense…isolated…switched off…. disconnected. Nothing electrical attached!
One of the greatest habits a believer needs to develop early and constant in their lives is to develop the discipline of spending time ‘truly alone’ with God every day. Reading the Bible, thinking over its truth, and turning to God in prayer…your voice…silence…and God’s voice.
Even if it’s only a few minutes at first, nothing can calm our souls more or better prepare us for this world’s challenges than time spent alone with God.
But the Bible also urges us to walk with God every waking moment.
Paul wrote to one Church these words, “Pray continually.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17
This week have some true time alone with your heavenly Father – you will love it, and it will change your life forever!
