Christmas Day devotion – shepherds

Pastor Keith   -

Luk 2:8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night

Bethlehem – shepherds, a warm fire, resting sheep, that’s the location of the first Christmas worship service. Not in a temple, or a grand cathedral or a synagogue. The wonderful news of the Messiah Jesus Christ’s birth filled the skies as the angel of the Lord declared the good news to lowly shepherds in the fields of Bethlehem.

How come the good news, Heaven’s declaration was not given to Israel’s priests, the bible scholars or the Pharisees?

The reason is very clear because God speaks only to those who are prepared in their hearts to listen. The Lord knew the hearts of these humble shepherds and the Bible tells us that God knows the heart of every man.

It was these humble shepherd’s fertile hearts that were able to discern the voice from Heaven above the clamour of the noise of the world. A good lesson for us who have not heard God’s voice with clarity this Christmas season to step away to a quiet place.

Take a moment to do this and you too will hear good news from Heaven if your heart is prepared to listen.
