Daily devotion – repentance
When a believer sins it really troubles them. Things are just off centre in every area and its like there is a cloud constantly hanging over them. A troubled heart is a sign that you actually are a follower of Christ otherwise you just would not care!
But it is folly to stay in this cloud of despair for the Bible tells us what to do when we stumble, when we fail God – 1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1Jo 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
As a believer, our next step having stumbled is to go to the Lord and confess our sin before Him and ask for His forgiveness. But this repentance needs to be taken seriously and not simply saying ‘sorry’ and then carrying on in the same foolish way as before.
This blessed forgiveness we receive is the constancy of God’s love for each of us who as our Heavenly Father knows how weak we are in our own ways.
How many times can we go to God for repentance? Everyday and any moment when you know you have sinned before Him.
We know that the unforgiveable sin is the rejection of Jesus Christ and His grace and continually rejecting the love of the Father to draw us to Him.
But also leaving sins that we have done throughout our day is an ‘unforgiven’ sin until we have sought God’s forgiveness through repentance. Let us keep nothing between us in our relationship with Him and always be clearing away our stumbles, our failures before Him.
Today, is there anything you have still sitting between you and God? Any unconfessed sin? Go before the Lord now and ask Him to cleanse you from all unrighteousness, seek His face and as you worship Him, anything that is not right will also come to mind so that we may be rid of it and clean before Him,
Prepare your heart for Christmas, by having nothing but praise worship and thanksgiving overflowing from it!
You will find that the cloud of despair, the ache in your heart, will lift as God lifts your head in His wonderful grace.
Psa 3:3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
