Daily devotion – the song of the angels Christmas eve

Pastor Keith   -

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favour rests…” – Luke 2:14

I love the solitude and silence of the Australian outback. The rest of the world seems another dimension away when one has the chance to be alone in the bush.

I am reminded of the shepherds that first Christmas eve, quietly gathered watching over their flocks by night! But how the silence of the hills of Judea would have been broken two thousand years ago when the sky lit up and a choir of angels sang in their presence.

Though the years had rolled on by, still the world longs for and looks for the peace that the angels proclaimed that blessed eve. Where is this peace you ask?

Clearly it is not evident in the world we see now, with its constant wars, fighting, conflicts and violence. This peace the angels sang about abides instead in the hearts of all those who have trusted in God’s grace. In the same proportion that the world has trusted Christ, it has peace.

There can be no lasting peace until Christ has come to the hearts of all people and brought them His peace.

Let us make this our prayer for our unsaved family this Christmas. That they each may discover the peace that will finally bring a rest to their souls.

The peace of having Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, of knowing that He has your life in His hands and that soon He is coming to take all those that are His, home to glory to be with Him forever!
