Daily devotion – alone with Him

Pastor Keith   -

Mat 6:6 “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

When a man marries his wife, the one the Lord has revealed as being the woman He has created just for that man, a unique union begins. The two need no one else around them. In fact they often prefer to be alone together, enjoying each others company, because their love for one another is a relationship that God has made in Heaven for them both.

What’s this got to do with prayer you ask. When one has received Christ as their Lord and Saviour, a unique relationship also begins. When Jesus went off to pray, He always did it privately. The Bible tells us that both Elisha and Daniel did also.

The connection between Christ and ourselves needs that time alone together. You and your Creator communing not just in words but far beyond that. The Apostle Paul wrote that at times our prayers would take on a whole other dimension.

Rom 8:26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
Rom 8:27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

It is in these moments alone that we grow and mature, we confess our sins, seek forgiveness and give Him praise and honour, thanking Him for our precious salvation.

When was the last time you set aside time alone with God? Do you make it part of your week, your day, simply being in His presence?

We are created in such a way that our innermost being needs this unique connection, this amazing relationship and bond with He who created us and saved us.

Jesus does not say, “If you pray”, He says “When you pray.” He expects us to be people of prayer in our relationship with Him.

This week, get alone with Him, and begin to enjoy what you were created for!
