Daily devotion – old ruts

Pastor Keith   -

Lamentations 3:23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

The holiday season is drawing to an end. Dad’s are heading back to work and mums are getting all the school stuff together in readiness even though we have about three weeks still to go.

It’s amazing how quickly Christmas and then the New Year appear in our rear vision mirrors. Soon it will be back to the regular routine.

How quickly sometimes we click back into the old ruts we travelled last year. The same old same old…as they say!

Yes, there is often an ongoing routine in our living that we all need to adhere to. But often we allow this ‘sameness’ to drift over into our relationship with God. It’s always a danger when our Bible reading, attending Church and our prayer life become mundane.

We go through the motion without emotion. That’s exactly how marriages begin to head towards the danger zone. Taking our most intimate relationship apart from Christ, our husband or wife for granted.

Are you going to read and pray just like you did last year? Are you going to maintain the status quo of Church just like you did last year? Or are you seeking God to see your relationship grow stronger and closer to Jesus?

Last year’s rut we don’t want to travel in. We want to walk in new paths of God using us and extending us like never before.

Then 2023 will be a year to remember!
