Daily devotion – a fall we want to avoid

Pro 29:23 A man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.

King Nebuchadnezzar had a second dream and it did three things to him:

1. It warned the king that his pride would bring judgment down on him.
2. It exposed the stupidity and incompetence of his court magicians.
3. Lastly, it gave young Daniel another opportunity to bring glory to the God of Israel.

How difficult it must have been for Daniel to bring the king the message of his second dream. Daniel knew the king had a short temper and it could mean Daniel’s execution!

You will remember Nathan the prophet having to confront king David with the sins that David thought were hidden.

But the Bible tells us when we face such moments that when our ways please the Lord we do not have to worry about our enemies – Proverbs 16:7

God gave king Nebuchadnezzar time to repent of his pride but sadly he continued on in his sins. Therefore God humbled him, Nebuchadnezzar learnt a massive lesson as a result and when he was restored he, the king of Babylon, gave glory to the God of Israel – Daniel’s God.

No matter what position we have in life, God gave it to us, and He is sovereign. When man tries to take the place of God and ignore Him completely, that man will become like a beast.

God today still resists the proud but gives grace to the humble – Proverbs 3:34

Let us always be bowed before our Lord and Saviour both in heart and deed.
