Daily devotion – decision time
James 1: 1 James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings. 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
There are times in our lives, when we are faced with difficult decisions. Complex matters that require our making, Lord willing , the right decision that will achieve God’s will on the matter.
Such issues happen more than we would like. They often cause people great anxiety, stress and heartache.
How do we know what to do? How do we make the right decision?
Obviously, we need to present the problem to the Lord. Lay it out to Him just like king Hezekiah when Israel was under attack from the Assyrians laid out the problem before the Lord – 2Ki 19:14 And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
Ok, now what? This is the part where learn to grow and trust in God. For now we wait on the Lord. We wait on Him with prayer and fasting. We seek His wisdom and wait for Him to guide us on the matter.
We make sure that all other distractions are put aside so that our ears are leaning to hear His voice. Rev 2:11 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
But know this, God is listening to us as well during this time – 1Pe 3:12 For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers;
It’s in these particular moments in our lives that we grow the most, where we mature, as we search out diligently Gods Word and seek His wisdom.
Lastly, we trust and have faith in His guidance on the matter. As He guides us we let go of the steering wheel and learn to rest in His peace.
What if we make the wrong decision? God knows our frailty and our weakness. He will ‘fix’ things for us and bring things around.
God’s Word is full of His grace, mercy and His longsuffering. As long as we sincerely go to Him in the first place. As long as we lay aside our own will and give Him the position of Lord in our lives.
Phl 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
