Daily devotion – wait and don’t be in such a hurry….
No matter how much knowledge we gather over time or learn through education or learning , new decisions arrive on our doorstep every day that require our attention.
This time of the year it’s about which school our kids should attend or which course they should study at which university, or what apprenticeships are available.
Decisions just never stop coming!
So how are we as followers of Christ to seek to make the right decision, that’s the quest.
We certainly should gather all the facts we can about the matter that’s for certain and give due diligence. We could also seek wise counsel from people who have expertise on particular matters – Pro 15:22 “Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”
Some matters are clearly laid out in the Bible as to what we should do. The Ten Commandments are beautifully clear in their wisdom and direction.
Jesus’ sermon on the mount is another detailed list of how to make the right decision and what to do on specific matters.
But there are things that pop up that the Bible does not explicitly address.
The Apostle James who lived with Jesus and Joseph and Mary, gives us some great advice – Jas 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” He would have seen Jesus make many a decision.
Sometimes we find ourselves just not knowing what to do!
That is a great time to step back and follow the Bible’s advice when we come to such a place – Proverbs 3: 5 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. 8 It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.”
It is much wiser to take time and the wisdom of the Word than to rush to make a hasty decision without having placed the matter before the Lord ……..and then to wait for His answer.
He is never wrong!
