Daily devotion – wise words
Ecc 7:21 Also do not take to heart everything people say, Lest you hear your servant cursing you.
Ever had someone say something not very nice to you? Or heard that a person has criticised you unfairly?
Life is filled with such times is it not?
King Solomon gives us some very wise counsel when we have been on the receiving end of unkind words.
He recommends that we do not take to heart everything people say – see verse 27
Proud people are alert to what others say about them and are in turn quick to react and retaliate.
This sadly only perpetuates the fires to continue burning and robs everyone of peace and joy!
C.H. Spurgeon writes, “You cannot stop people’s tongues, and therefore the best thing to do is to stop your own ears and never mind what is spoken.”
Wise words indeed.
