Daily devotion – Protection of the Lord

Pastor Keith   -

Isa 9:6
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Our latest grandchild came to Church for the first time this last Sunday. From now on, each Sunday he will, with his brother, sisters, father and mother, be in Church each Sunday til the Lord comes.

I saw him after the service asleep in his pram oblivious to all the fuss that was going on around him. He was the picture of innocence and frailty.

It took my mind back to Bethlehem, when our Lord entered our world, actually His world, after all He created it. There in that small stable (cave) lay just like our grandson Gabriel, the Creator of Heaven and earth. The Word unable to speak a Word. A small baby boy now living in a dangerous and violent world.

But here is where we miss the bigger picture. Jesus, a newly born babe, was in the complete care and protection of His Father in Heaven, and every angel in Heaven, not just Joseph and Mary.

As Jesus grew, there were many times that humanity and Satan attempted to bring harm to Him. But they could not touch Him without the Father’s permission.

Job too, a man just like you and I we are told, was only allowed to be in conflict with the permission of Almighty God.

Sometimes, fear grips our lives over our smallest saints in this grim world.

Let us remember, that God has His own in His complete care.

Jhn 10:28 “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”

Does that mean we will never face difficult trials? No, Job’s life and our Lord’s both tell us the truth about such a concept.

But let us remember, “He will never leave nor forsake us!” That God controls the very breath we breathe.

I am so thankful for that truth because it brings a calm to my heart and a peace to my mind.

Luke 12:6 “Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
