Daily devotion – Easter Sunday thanksgiving!
Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened—those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come— 6 and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.
It’s Friday morning as I write this and my heart is overwhelmed with the thoughts of Christ’s suffering, His loneliness, His betrayal, His face being spat on and beaten, just for me.
Too often, we water down the Gospel message so much that people consider it not the most important life changing decision they will ever make, but just another choice in life’s journey along with everything else.
This has resulted in Churches filled with ‘selfish consumers’ instead of thankful sinners saved by grace.
When we share the Gospel with someone, we should make them fully aware that this is a momentous occasion, a decision NOT to be taken lightly, but one that once entered is eternal. We should also make each person aware that this decision will change their lives forever and that with the glorious blessing it will bring, along with that, they will enter into the greatest battles they have ever known….but they too will come through them all!
To treat salvation, walking with Christ lightly is the greatest sin of all. When one tramples over Christ’s death on Calvary, there is nothing left, but eternal separation from God. The Bible calls this hell.
As we gather to prepare our hearts for Easter Sunday service, let us come with hearts bursting with thanks, with our emotions flooded with joy and humility, and tears of thanksgiving, for we each know we have received the greatest gift and it came at the greatest cost – the death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Never let us treat Christ’s suffering and death on the Cross with anything but absolute reverence. It is the greatest story ever told. How God became a man to die for those who deserved not His grace but His judgment.
See you Easter Sunday morning.
