Daily devotion – overwhelmed

Pastor Keith   -

There are just days when I am overwhelmed by God’s greatness, His majesty, His holiness and His mercy. As I write this devotion it is one of those days! It is as if for a moment in time, the heavens are opened and my minuteness sits completely under the shadow of the Almighty God who somehow loves me and enjoys my being in His company.

I have nothing to bring or to give but I can worship Him and praise His holy name.

But this is without words, it’s the deepest part of prayer! I see all that He has done for us and the abundant blessings He has bestowed to us, and I am speechless.

Some people, and I just cannot comprehend how this occurs, have but a casual acquaintance with God but no intimacy. He who has been forgiven much loves much! I know in my heart what my salvation cost, it cost the horrendous treatment and brutal death of my Saviour Jesus Christ to pay what I owed but could never pay.

King David loved the God of Israel passionately and wanted to do something to express his thankfulness to the Lord. David decided he would build God and new Temple. A place that would reflect both the awe and holiness of the God of Israel but something that would also be a way for David to show His gratefulness also.

But God through the prophet Nathan, said that David could not do this – 2 Samuel 7:1-12 explains why.

But then God told David that instead He would build David a house! WOW! This is how great and marvellous our Lord is.

When Nathan shared with David this response from God to David’s plans, David was overwhelmed and said “Who am I, O Lord God?” 2 Samuel 7:18

With that David went into the Temple and sat before God…..speechless. This is the man who wrote hundreds of Psalms/Songs of the glory and wonder of the Lord. But now we find David – speechless!

2 Samuel 7: 20…. “Now what more can David say to You?

I pray that this week you find yourself ‘overwhelmed’, like David, speechless before God, because of how great and marvellous your relationship is with Him and how overawed you are by His goodness and grace to you.

God loves you…..Jesus is coming soon!
