Daily devotion – living by faith

Pastor Keith   -

Rom 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

How does one live by faith? We don’t live by our own faithfulness because that smacks of self-trust, which is the opposite to that which Scripture teaches.

Hab 2:4 “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.

The Hebrew word faith in this verse is actually – faithfulness.

The Bible says to live by faith is to live by the faithfulness of God – that is the righteous will live by the faithfulness of God.

We live by faith when:

1. We live knowing that God is faithful.
2. That He who promised is faithful – Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
3. Abraham considered Him faithful who made the promise – Heb 11:11 By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.

So living by faith is placing our faith in the faithfulness of God!

When Paul said, ….I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, – Galatians 2:20 – Paul was not leaning on his own faith. He was leaning on Christ’s faith.

This is the way we are saved and this is the way we live – living by faith not works.

This is such good news because when we are at our lowest ebb, we can still lean on the promises of God to help us and to strengthen us at such times. To see us get through the storm.

Living by faith is not something we have to work up, it is when we trust our situation in the Lord’s hands KNOWING that He will not fail us because we know who He is!
