Daily devotion – Wars and rumours of wars
Mat 24:6 “And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”
Last night on the 60 Minutes program, there was a detailed coverage of the events happening in the South China Sea. A massive gathering of military powers and several military exercises are underway. In addition, the USA has increased its military presence in the Philippines because of the issues of China, Taiwan and the build-up of Chinese power in this location.
Meanwhile, Ukraine continues its defence against the Russian invasion, fighting for its freedom and independence at a significant cost to both sides.
Jesus, when asked what would be the signs of His coming and of the end of the age, responded with our opening text in Matthew 24:6….
Watching the massive build-up of forces in the South China Sea on the 60 Minutes program, one could become quite anxious. Will China invade Taiwan? Will this draw the USA and Australia into this conflict? Would nuclear weapons be used? World war three?
While we note that Jesus said these events would be a sign of the Last Days, He also assured us not to be troubled. There is still time; it’s not the end just yet!
We are the generation seeing these events unfold on our news; changes happening in our world that years past would be unthinkable. The Gospel of Jesus Christ must be preached for sinners to receive the forgiveness made available by Christ’s death on the Cross at Calvary. The time of salvation by grace is at hand.
For too long, the Church has made itself more of a place of social gathering instead of a lighthouse constantly beaming the Light of the world to stop people from crashing on the rocks the enemy is pushing their lives towards.
The urgency of the hour is not just for pastors today; it’s for every man, woman or child who is a disciple of Jesus Christ to seek the lost sheep, raise the banner of His grace high, and share the good news.
Let us work together in proclaiming the Gospel!
Paul tells us of the incredible power of the Gospel – Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
The wars and the rumours of wars are our signal to be even more diligent in spreading the good news in a bad news world now!
The time is short and Jesus is coming.
