Daily devotion – when you make a mess!
Gen 13:4 to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
Have you ever really messed up something? Failed what you set out to do?
Today I spent most of the day on a home project that turned into a nightmare of mistakes and fails. All of my own doing!
Sometimes in our walk with the Lord, we blow it, we take the wrong fork in the road, attempt to do something that God has not directed us to do and it turns into a mess. Mo matter how hard we try or how much time and effort we put into it, it still remains a mess!
Abram, made a massive mistake when instead of seeking the Lord and remaining in the Promised Land, he took it on himself to go to Egypt. This created such a mess with Abram lying, putting his wife Sarah into danger, and ending up with a problem named Hagar that stuck with him.
But, and here is the good news, God helps us out of the messes we make that are our own fault.
So Abram returns back to where he should have stayed and what does he do? He goes back to the place where he had first built an altar to the Lord, and starts over again.
This text has stayed with me over the years faithfully and each time I have mucked things up it has taught me to go back to the place where I stepped out of God’s will and restarted back on the right path with the Lord.
God is gracious and if you have made a mess of things, go back to where you decided you knew better than God and repent and begin again!
