This Week at Calvary –. This week we have commenced two new study series. The book of Galatians, which details the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and this morning the book of Colossians, which tells us the all-sufficiency of Jesus Christ. In other words, we need nothing else to live victoriously other than recognising Christ’s power available to us. We encourage you to keep pace with all our teaching sessions. This will increase your personal Bible knowledge and also enlarge your understanding of the wonder of the God we serve. Set aside in your schedule to join with us Wednesdays as the Church gathers to pray as the body of Christ. It is this time that defines the power of Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour and the capacity for God to use us in His kingdom as a force for His glory. Consider prayer with the same importance as breathing and air to your life. It’s essential! Also be encouraged to become a serving saint of CCSH in order to bring blessing to His Church here in Secret Harbour. Connection cards detailing how to become a servant here are available at the information desk.
From the Pastors Desk What you need to know as we begin Colossians today. There arose a problem in Colossae, false teachers! Gnostics – people supposedly of superior knowledge, who could ‘help lesser Christians’ attain deeper spirituality! Gnosis – Greek – means to know. Gnostics gave themselves the title of ‘people in the know.’ They believed all matter was evil, therefore they taught that Jesus cannot be God, because He would not have taken on a human body. But the Gnostics taught that Jesus was like a phantom like figure. The Gnostics taught that Christ was not Creator, the incarnation was not real, and that Jesus was not enough! So, the Gnostics used Jewish legalism, secret passwords borrowed from Eastern Mysticism, astrology, and pieces of Christianity. Gnostics looked down on the simple Colossian believers – leading them astray. This is the alarming message that Epaphras brough to Paul. Paul’s response in this letter presented Jesus as the Creator and all-sufficient Redeemer. The Church today is still under this Gnostic assault by false teachers and cultists (JW’s) who see Jesus as only part of the answer. Genesis 1:1 and Psalm 23 :1 and John 1:1 all settle the argument. Jesus is the Creator, Jesus is all I need, and Jesus was the Word, the Word was God and He was in the beginning with God, all things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made!
Helen’s Heart
Nothing… shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 8:35-39. In Romans chapter 8, Paul spells out the wonderful comfort concerning separation. The present circumstances may bend us but they cannot rob us of our Lord’s love. He loved them to the end John 13:1 And in the future, no things to come, can separate us from Him. We will be tempted to doubt and feel all alone but we have the promise of Greater is He in you than he that’s of the world.. So, no-one nor thing can separate us from His love. Amen!
Prayer – Join us for pray each Sunday morning at 9:45 and Wednesday 7:00pm for the Lord’s blessing and protection over all our services and His ministries here at CCSH. Have a prayer need? Fill in a prayer card and join us as we pray together for your need and the others of the Church.
