Daily devotion – Its the Lord’s work

Pastor Keith   -

Acts 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.
46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

Churches today strive to keep people connected to the body of Christ. Trying many ways to let being part of the body of Christ be more than just a Sunday morning for one and a half hours.

As we read the opening text in the Book of Acts however, we see that there were no programs, special dinners, organised events as such. But the people were one in Christ because of their love for God and one another. The excitement of salvation, of being under the teaching of the Word by the Apostles, sharing their lives together happened as a consequence of their salvation and their love for Jesus.

Often, we are guilty of circling the wagons, imagining new programs, all in an attempt to create something that God only does by His Holy Spirit with those who have been saved from their sins and now follow Jesus Christ with every ounce of living that they have.

Psalm 127:1…. Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it;

The events in the Book of Acts are a sharp lesson for all of us that man’s touch to God’s Work does not work and and will not achieve anything.

Therefore, let us pray, let us read God’s Word with hungry hearts and let us call upon the name of the Lord. May God in His good pleasure bring revival today to His body the Church.
