Daily devotion – Who is the Holy Spirit

Pastor Keith   -

Who is the Holy Spirit?

We accept the fact that the Holy Spirit is God, just as much God as God the Father and God the Son. But we struggle when it comes to explaining – Who is the Holy Spirit.

The Bible teaches us that the Holy Spirit is a Person. Jesus never referred to “it” when He was talking about the Holy Spirit and neither should we!

We see from the Bible that the Holy Spirit has intellect, emotions, and will. In addition to this, the Bible teaches us that He is a real Person.

How – firstly, the Holy Spirit speaks – Rev 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” ’

Act 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Secondly, the Holy Spirit intercedes – Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Thirdly, He testifies – Jhn 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.”

The Bible goes on to tell us that the Holy Spirit leads us, commands us, guides us, appoints us and so much more.

He has all the attributes of God because He is God, as part of the Holy Trinity. How the Trinity happens is a mystery – but we know it happens.

But there is only one God, not three – Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

The word God in this verse is the Hebrew word, ELOHIM, its plural and it tells us of the plurality of persons in the Godhead.

We see this in action in the book of Genesis 1:26…God said, Let US make man in OUR image, according to OUR likeness…

When Isaiah saw the throne of God in a vision in Isaiah 6, a voice spoke from the throne of God and said, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for US?”

There is nothing that God is that the Holy Spirit is not. All the essential parts of the deity belong to the Holy Spirit. We can say of Him exactly what was said of Jesus Christ in the ancient Nicene Creed: “He is very God of very God! So we bow before Him, we worship Him, we accord Him every response Scripture requires of our relationship to Almighty God.

Who is the Holy Spirit? He is God!

Now knowing this, my prayer for you is that you will come to understand the very real relationship we each are to have with the Holy Spirit.

Take time to pray and seek God’s Word, be filled afresh with the Spirit of God and you will see your life change powerfully and dramatically….and let Him have free reign over and in your life.
