Daily devotion – ….and the ground shook…
Act 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
This passage is one of my favourites in the Bible and the book of Acts. It’s a great place to learn how to deal with persecution when it threatens us in our walk with Christ. In addition, this prayer of the early Church is a marvellous model for us to follow in how we should pray at such times!
At the end of the prayer, tells us that the ground shook. Was this a coincidence? The earthquake came just as they finished their prayer? No way! To the Church that had gathered to support and seek guidance from God and from the Apostles, Peter and John, this was a clear sign that God had heard their prayer.
In Acts 1:8 Jesus had promised, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
That is, power to witness. God answered their prayer: being filled with the Holy Spirit they went out and they spoke the Word with boldness.
God wants to work in your life in a greater way than you have ever experienced before. None of us have arrived. None of us have even come close.
There is so much more that God longs to do. The Lord wants to work through you and me.
If we will yield ourselves fully to Him. God will work through us and bring glory and honour to His holy name!
