Daily devotion – time for important words
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
Some years ago, Bishop Phillips Brooks became very ill and thus was seeing no visitors due to his low condition of health.
However, an agnostic friend of his by the name of Robert Ingersoll had heard that Brooks his friend was sick and called at his home to see him. After previously seeing no visitors, Brooks welcome in Ingersoll to visit with him.
On speaking to Bishop Brooks, Mr Ingersoll asked him why he allowed him entry in to visit when he had barred anyone else from calling.
To which Bishop Brooks replied, “I feel confident of seeing my other friends in the next world, but this may be my last chance to visit with you.”
The reality of life and death are very real in the world we live. The Bible tells us that we all will travel down this path and then we find ourselves either with our Lord in Heaven or, we will face a judgment ending in eternal separation from God.
Like Bishop Brooks, we must speak of such urgent matters to those who at this moment have not bowed their hearts or knee to our saviour Jesus Christ.
Therefore, let us pray for an opportunity to speak this most important message as Bishop Brooks, in spite of his failing health, wanted to share with his lost friend, Robert Ingersoll.
