Daily devotion – eternity in our hearts
Ecclesiastes 3:11 states, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”
Consider the annual migration of songbirds, covering thousands of miles between Europe and Africa, returning each year to the very spot they chose on their first journey. These tiny creatures display astonishing navigational precision, traversing challenging terrains and climates. If displaced by winds, those who have previously completed the journey can realign their course, implying a built-in mechanism to find home even in unfamiliar places.
Solomon tells us that God has embedded a unique yearning for eternity within every human heart. Scripture asserts that humanity, fashioned in God’s image and given dominion over creation (Genesis 1:26-28), carries a connection to heaven. As a result, the satisfaction of human endeavors and achievements or the explanation of life’s mysteries often eludes us.
During those moments when you sense a longing for a reality beyond this world, when a yearning for Heaven stirs within you, remember the small birds. They won’t nest anywhere but their designated location, bound by God’s design. Likewise, we desire Heaven—a longing rooted deep within us—compelling us to seek understanding of God’s comprehensive plan.
We, created in God’s image, are not mere animals. Our purpose is to be in glory with Him. Christ, our Savior, addresses the ache within us. He unlocks the door to eternal life, bringing clarity to life’s haze and confusion.
Ephesians 2:10 affirms our status: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Imagine feeling God’s intimate touch woven into your life. In those unique moments, you pause to long for home, for Heaven, for the Creator. God’s blessings exceed our imagination.
Eternity is nestled within our hearts. God placed it there when He fashioned you!
