Daily devotion – faithful in His promises

Pastor Keith   -

Jos 21:45 Not a word failed of any good thing which the LORD had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.

The late Pastor Thom Whitaker, our first Pastor, taught me and modelled before me how to be a godly Christian father. One of his great instructions which I will never forget was the following: “When you as a father make a promise to your children, you must fulfil it no matter what!” Why, because, in doing this, we are exhibiting how our Heavenly Father never goes back on His promises to us.

A major problem in today’s modern parenting is broken promises in parent-child relationships. A father says, “One day I will take you to the big game.” Or, “One of these days I am going to take you fishing.” Or “As soon as I get home from work, I promise to have kick to kick with you.” Or a mother declares, “Next month we will be able to afford that special item of clothing you like.”

Yet the father never gets to the big game, can’t find the time to go fishing, or scrape in half an hour kicking the football. And mum never seems to get the cash for that promised item of clothing.

God reminds us that all His promises are true. God is as good as His Word! You may have heard the saying, “God said it. I believe it. That settles it.”

The Bible more accurately proclaims, “God said it. That settles it whether we believe it or not.”

God and His promises can be counted on. The proof of the Lord’s faithfulness can be seen in Jesus Christ, God’s Son. Jesus, the Word made flesh, is the fulfilment of all of God’s promises to give us life and salvation.

Our faith is as secure as we count on Him. He promises to always be there for us and to give us what we need.

His promises will never fail us!
