Daily devotion – forgiven

Pastor Keith   -

Psa 25:6 Remember, O LORD, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses,
For they are from of old.
Psa 25:7 Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O LORD.

The term, ‘sins of my youth’ is an expression often used when we look back over our lives and recall the failings, the disappointments, where we have shunned God’s direction and instructions and did things, we are ashamed of.

We cringe when such memories come to mind, wondering how stupid we were, how selfish, and hope no one will remember them.

Our adversary the Devil, uses these sins of our youth to make us believe that God will neither forgive nor forget them.

Were that true, we would be bound for eternal separation from God in hell.

King David had a great deal of which he was ashamed in his life. The falling with Bathsheba alone would have been enough to keep David’s conscience pointing its finger for the rest of his life.

His sin of coveting another man’s wife set off a domino effect of sins culminating in the murder of Bathsheba’s husband Uriah in battle due to David’s orders.

Nathan, David’s friend and prophet of God, accused David of his guilt before God and brought out David’s confession which brought about this beautiful response from Nathan, “The Lord has taken away your sin.”

The Bible tells us that God is Love – that’s His character. This love prompted Him to send His Son Jesus Christ, to redeem, forgive and restore us. We can be reassured everyday that,  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12
“I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” – Jeremiah 31:34

Today, take a moment, acknowledge the wonderful forgiveness and grace of God that you have received and give thanks with a grateful heart.

You have been forgiven, He has forgotten, now may we in the same manner, do so to those who have wronged us, in Jesus name, Amen.
