Daily devotion – Open our eyes Lord
Matthew 28:19-20 records the powerful mandate from Jesus, our Savior and Lord: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.”
Have you ever paused to ponder the purpose of your continued presence in this world after accepting Christ? Why does the Church exist beyond our personal salvation?
Jesus’ Great Commission is a call to action, a divine command to engage in a mission far greater than ourselves. It is a directive to actively fish for souls, to reach out to the lost and broken, and to gather them into the loving embrace of the Savior. Yes, salvation secures our place in Heaven, but there’s a reason we’re still on this Earth – to be fishers of people.
Imagine Saul’s encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. Blinded and struck by divine revelation, Saul’s vision was restored only when a faithful believer, Ananias, prayed for him. Scales fell from Saul’s eyes, allowing him to see the world with new spiritual clarity.
When we walk closely with God, abiding in His Spirit, and serving Him with unwavering devotion, our perspective changes. Just as Jesus saw the multitudes as lost and helpless sheep without a Shepherd, we too should see a world longing for salvation, battered by sin’s consequences.
Compassion led Jesus to declare that the harvest is plentiful. Yet, there remains a critical shortage of laborers, those willing to share the Gospel and gather souls for the Kingdom.
The call is clear: Jesus did not say the worshippers are few. He said the workers are few. He is seeking willing hearts to fulfill His mission, to be the hands and feet of His love and grace.
In a world overwhelmed by spiritual need, where people are lost and hurting, will you step up to answer the call? Will you be counted among the workers for the harvest? The time is short, and the need is great, but the joy of participating in God’s eternal plan is immeasurable.
Take a moment to ask the Lord to open your eyes and heart to the urgency of His mission. Let His compassion flow through you as you become an instrument of His love and a worker in His harvest field. Remember, the promise of His presence is with you always, guiding and empowering you as you fulfill the Great Commission. The joy of the harvest is a joy that echoes throughout eternity.
