Daily devotion – meeting others needs

Pastor Keith   -

2 Timothy 1: 3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy.

Paul remembered Timothy’s tears on their last parting. Possibly at Paul’s second Roman arrest we are not sure. Paul desired Timothy to join him in Rome.

Paul had longed for Timothy’s companionship which was such a personal joy to him.

It reveals to all of us that even the great Apostle Paul at times experienced loneliness, became discouraged and in need of support from fellow Christians.

Many times, we can arrive at Church simply full of our own needs and problems. Completely ignorant of those around us who are desperate for encouragement, a kind word, and your prayers.

Our selfish society way of thinking has sadly crept into the Church in the days we now live. This is why I encourage each of us to spend time in prayer before we attend Church. Our hearts need to be ploughed over by the Holy Spirit, softened and made sensitive to the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Even when our own needs seem to be at a height of a great predicament, there is always someone close by whose storm, whose wound is far greater than our own. In addition, it is by our praying and comforting those around us in time of need that with it always brings back blessing from God to us.

The next time you are gathering with the body of Christ, after casting all your cares upon the Lord, ask Him to lead you to someone who is in need!

We all remember when Peter and John were on their way to prayer as they usually did,  and on the way they passed a man laying at the gate of the Temple. Acts 3: 6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

You may not have the financial resources that some folks are seeking but we all have Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Let us bring the comfort and blessing of Christ whenever we gather with His precious body. This is just one of the blessings that always makes me eager to meet with God’s people.
