Daily devotion – warning signs
How quickly our weather can change. Wednesday forecast 34 degrees and then Sunday 21 with showers. It’s the same for our world situation, who can not forget watching those two jets deliberately crash into the twin towers in New York – Sept 11.
Soo too our own lives, all of a sudden, a fall, a doctors diagnosis, a phone call from relatives overseas. Things can change so rapidly in all our lives.
The Bible warns us that the next sudden event in the Bible’s prophetic timeline is the Rapture of the Church – 1 Thess 4: 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
When Jesus was talking about the Last Day events with His disciples on the Mount of Olives, he went on in Matthew 25 to tell the parable of the wise and foolish virgins.
The wise virgins were ready for the coming of the promised Bridegroom, they were watching and waiting, and they had oil in their lamps for when He would show.
But the foolish virgins, were caught short unprepared. Can one prepare for when difficult times suddenly arise like what happened to Job? Yes, we are warned constantly in the Bible to be ready, but not just be ready for the Lord’s coming, but by prayer and fasting be ready for sudden changes in our lives. It’s holiday time and before people travel they do all the needed preparations, let the neighbours know, lock the house, switch or disconnect things that could cause damage whilst away, and last of all pack what we need.
Too many believers today are far from ready for sudden storms in their lives. When the storms hit their oil lamp is empty. We have been given warnings and signs that tell us we are in the Last Hour. Just like the weather bureau told us about the hot Wednesday and then the coming rain for next week.
But we have a more reliable source, we have the Word of God.
James told us the mindset we should have about future plans and the tomorrows we have yet to experience.
James 4: 13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. 17 Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
Are you ready? Are you ready for that sudden storm? Are you ready for the coming of the Lord?
Heb 11:7
It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.
