Daily devotion – The Holy Scriptures coming to life.

Pastor Keith   -

2 Cor 3:4 And we have such trust through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Each week before  teach I usually ask for people if they have their Bible and to raise them up so I can see them. This is not a stunt but actually it’s a reminder to us all of the importance of knowing God’s Word in our lives.

Many people struggle with the Bible for some simple reasons. They just don’t believe it and therefore pay no attention to it. Or they are simply too lazy to read it. Such people often say it’s because they don’t understand it therefore, they don’t read it.

You cannot understand the Scriptures apart from the key! Jesus said to the Pharisees, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have eternal life.”
John 5:39-40

You see, the Scriptures apart from Jesus are dead. Paul says the letter kills but the Spirit gives life. Why? Because the Spirit gives you the understanding to God’s Word, which is Jesus!

We must be born again and have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our lives to be able to know the Scriptures.

Once you are filled with the Holy Spirit, after you have received Christ as your Lord and Saviour, God will open your eyes and understanding of His precious Word.

Lastly, when you are born again, you have a passion to read God’s Word because now you know He speaks to you through it each day!

Reading the Bible is like breathing oxygen to a believer – it’s our life!
