Daily devotion – What is more important.
Zec 2:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
In the face of events that truly matter, it becomes apparent how trivial and insignificant some of our concerns are. The ongoing situation in Israel, with the rising number of innocent lives taken by terrorist acts, brings a stark perspective to our priorities.
Reflecting on my time at the old Princess Margaret Children’s Hospital, particularly the children’s cancer ward, Ward 3, brings a poignant realization. Many children faced their last days in that ward, surrounded by anxious parents. It prompts a reevaluation of what truly matters in life.
Often, we find ourselves entangled in trivial matters, investing time and energy into things that pale in comparison to the weightier issues faced by others. Sporting events, for example, can dominate people’s emotions to an unhealthy extent. It’s crucial to put our concerns in perspective.
Consider your own life this week. Evaluate what may be occupying too much of your attention and concern, especially if it’s inconsequential compared to the profound challenges faced by others. It’s akin to decluttering when moving house — tossing out accumulated junk that, upon reflection, is worthless.
Luk 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
