Daily devotion – a happy and blessed marriage today is possible!
What makes a good marriage? Many couples enter marriage with very little preparation. It’s such a pity this includes many Christians.
Pre-marriage counselling is what makes a couple prepared and wiser before the big day. To know what passages of Scripture they need to know and follow. Such as Ephesians 5 and 1 Peter 3 where the Bible speaks succinctly about the roles of a husband and a wife. Ephesians also includes parental notes as well, besides the book of proverbs.
A good and godly marriage requires mutual respect – that there is no manipulating one another but instead unselfishly nourishing the partner in such a way that he or she may become the person God intended them to be.
Respect distinguishes between the ideal and the real and does not demand too much.
Problems and differences are resolved by both the husband and the wife acknowledging that the ‘last word’ on any matter of dispute or disagreement is that of the Bible. Not the one who demands or shouts the most or makes threats.
Problems and differences are resolved through grace and forgiveness – Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Ten words can save a marriage and keep it filled with God’s grace and love.
I was wrong – Forgive me – I’m sorry – I love you.
It was the Apostle Paul who compared marriage – the union of husband and wife – to the eternal relationship between Christ and the Church – Ephesians 5:22-33.
The best thing that each husband and wife can do for their spouse and for their marriage is to keep their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ as the most important issue in life. Then God will look after the rest!
Happy and blessed marriage!
