Daily devotion – The true meaning of Christmas
Isa 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
As Christians, our task or mission is to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. We are to be the influencers, not the ones being influenced.
As we approach Christmas you will hear many people sadly say the following describing the Christmas Season – “The Silly Season.”
Every time I hear that God gives me the opportunity to gently respond, “I love this time of the year as we look forward to celebrating the coming of Christ. It’s a special time for us and our family as a whole.”
Let us not simply allow the words ‘silly season’ be the trademark definition of this blessed time we remember the birth of our Saviour. I believe each person that uses that term is a wonderful opportunity to speak to about Jesus Christ. Why?
These people are telling you up front, they are struggling with life, things are not going well and their hearts are ripe for hope and grace which Christ brought with Him at His birth.
How wonderful would it be to be able to transform the vocabulary of such a broken person to have them later say – “Christmas is such a wonderful time for us now to know the story of Christ and God’s great love and sacrifice – that it was for me.”
The words, “Silly Season” are an open door to step into with an introduction of what Christmas now means to you because you know the Saviour personally!
Let us pray and wait on the Lord and be ready for the lonely and broken people to give us the opportunity to walk into their despair with the Saviour of the world and the true blessed meaning of Christmas!
