Daily devotion – Heavenly Father

Pastor Keith   -

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father,

I will never forget the time I was with a couple preparing to be married and filling out the legal papers required for the ceremony to occur.

Part of the process is recording the bride and grooms parents names and their country of birth. When I asked the bride to be, her father’s name and details, her reply stunned me.  She said “I don’t know who my father is.” Thus the form was completed with the writing – “father – unknown.”

I remembered just how sad and impacting that statement was that day.

But in Isaiah, the prophet writes that we have a father. A Heavenly Father who will take care of our future. For He is everlasting! He will always be there.

We live in a culture as I discussed earlier, where so many people have grown up in fatherless homes. Or maybe you have a father, but he is very uninvolved in your life. You feel like he doesn’t really care about you.

The Bible is saying there is an Everlasting Father who will never abandon you. He will never desert you. He will never forget about you. He will always be there with His counsel to guide and help you through your life.

We will never put unknown down for our Heavenly Father, for as we read His precious Word, He is revealed to us each day, that He is the Father who loves us and longs for us to be with Him for all eternity.

Remind yourself that you are not fatherless, but you have a Father who rules the world and who watches over you and loves you.
