Daily devotion – the cure for a weary soul and body.
Isaiah 40 :28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD,
The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
Weariness and age go hand in hand. It’s something that we all come to a realize, in a moment in time, a certain incident or even for others, like a tide slowly going out. Age in years brings with it weariness.
Our grandchildren are often at our house or we are out with them and their energy is enormous. Surfing, then swimming, playing cricket, building things, there is no let up.
But Helen and I, notice they are winning, and we are lagging behind, and our recovery period is an urgent matter now!
Isaiah tells us however that God never grows weary. He runs the world, the universe our individual lives, the birds of the air and the flowers in the field without any pause. Instead, He provides strength and power to us when our ‘tank’ is running empty.
For the Bible tells us that even the youth will hit the wall of weariness at some time!
So how do we connect to His life support system? We wait on Him in faith and trust.
Wait – means to wait, look for, hope, expect, to wait or look eagerly for
to lie in wait for, to wait for, linger for, to collect, bind together.
It’s that beautiful part of our life where we get alone with God, without fear, sitting at His feet in rested assurance, and He fills us once again with His Word of encouragement and His Spirit of strength and hope.
It’s a little bit like having that once in a blue moon fantastic nights sleep. When you wake up there is no hint of tiredness and everything seems new. Yet this renewal has come directly from God to our inner man.
As Christmas looms, I implore you who are weary, to ‘wait on the Lord’ and He will refresh you. This is His promise to all those who come to Him.
