Daily devotion – when the enemy strikes.

Pastor Keith   -

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Paul tells us here that Satan our adversary is a strong enemy and that we need the power of God to be able to stand against him. We should never underestimate the power of the devil.

He is not compared to a lion and a dragon for fun. As we read the amazing story found in the book of Job we saw what Satan’s power could do to a man’s body, his home, his wealth, and his friends. Jesus called Satan a thief who comes “to steal and to kill and to destroy” – John 10:10

Not only is Satan strong, but he is intelligent and subtle, and we fight against “the wiles of the devil.”

Lastly, the Bible declares that Satan is the father of all lies. Maybe this week you have had Satan come at you. Condemn you with his vitriol. Thankfully as we grow older and closer to our Lord, we recognise Satan’s voice and his lies so much clearer now and we need to just ‘let them go to the keeper’. When you are troubled by the enemy, there are some important things to remember and to put into action.

1. Go to the Lord in prayer and bring to Him the wounds or scars from the evil one’s attack upon you and let the Lord heal you of them.
2. Cast off every idle word from the liar’s mouth knowing that the very opposite is the truth to what Satan has attacked you with.
3. Go to the Word of God and read God’s precious promises of love and grace to you. We read in the book of Job that God commended Job as His servant, for being upright like no one else on earth, blameless, one who fears God and shuns evil.” – Job 1:8
4. Look up to God and not down on the storm or lies of the enemy.

Psalm 121: I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Remember we are in a battle from the day we received Christ as our Lord and Saviour. We wrestle not with flesh and blood. We have a whole suit of armour to wear and a sword to wield.
Put the Lord between you and the evil one and stay safe in the hands of the Lord and He will keep you! – John 10: 28 – 30.
