Daily devotion – today!
Jas 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Ever heard people talking about living ‘in the moment’? The statement has some truth to it biblically.
Jesus said, Mat 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Just this week some things happened that were not planned. It’s like illness, no one plans to be sick on a certain day, it just happens. All of sudden your life takes a very different track for the day or period you are not well and you have no control over that time, nor when you will be right again.
This is why the bible says, 2Co 6:2 …….Today is the day of salvation.
None of us can go back and live in yesterday, nor can we time travel into tomorrow. We are live in the present and the bible tells us that our lives are frail and can change in the twinkle of an eye.
In sport there is a term used quite often and it’s the word, ‘potential’. But I find that word has little meaning many times to reality. Someone can have great potential to be a champion AFL player, but until they actually play a game, we won’t know!
As we head into the New Year, let us do what’s important and needed right now. Make it happen. You’re planning to have a long conversation with your son or daughter, to pray with them, to see where their lives and thinking is at now. Don’t put off that moment or wait til you get around to it.
Perhaps it’s to compliment your wife or your husband, to tell them you love them and appreciate them, don’t wait!
Lastly, in your walk with the Lord, don’t put off drawing close to Him, to setting some serious time to pray and meet with Him, to read His Word and mature in Him.
It’s today, not yesterday, that day has gone, and it’s not tomorrow because we don’t live in tomorrows.
Have a great day today in the things that can be done – and do them all to the glory of God.
