Daily devotion – God answers prayer
One of the best books you can ever read on prayer is “Answers to Prayer” by George Muller. A simple journal of the many answered prayers during Muller’s ministry to orphans in 19th century England.
He started with three orphanages, which he oversaw on faith, meaning Muller never revealed their needs to anyone or asked publicly for help.
He simply prayed for everything. Workers, buildings, food, furniture, everything was lifted up to the Lord in believing prayer. His prayer journal is exciting to read because he recorded everything that God answered in those forty plus years, including the hardships and times of testing, and how God proved His faithfulness again and again.
Hosea 2:21 “It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer,” says the LORD;“I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth. 22 The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.
23 Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’ ”
God makes a wonderful promise to remove the reproach from Israel and betroth her to Himself. He went on to say that He will say to those who were not My people, “You are My people!”
God promises to answer as we lift up our many needs to Him. There is nothing too small, nothing too big.
George Muller prayed for a single penny as well as for thousands of British pounds. Millions of dollars flowed through George’s hands in the course of his ministry, to help the poor and needy!
He had successfully learned the first basic principle of ministry: God answers prayer!
There are times when we struggle and wonder if God will truly answer our prayers. We will experience trials as we have studied and see with the Old Testament saints such as Abraham and Hosea. But we will learn in such times our need to wait upon the Lord.
But always, ultimately, we can take God at His Word, because He promises to answer.
We are betrothed to Him forever!
