daily devotion – our mission

2Co 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,

Today I found out that a former work colleague had a family tragedy that is one of the most difficult to face as a parent.

As followers of Christ, we are also Christ’s ambassadors in this fallen hurting world. Our task is not only to share the gospel but another role we have is to be a support for those whose lives are going through a storm that only God can bring any form of ‘comfort’ to their broken hearts.

We do not have to come up with or provide the answers or the ‘whys and wherefores’ for this only God knows. But our task is to come alongside, to reach out, not to interfere but to simply be there!

When the godly man Job’s world came under the relentless attack of Satan, his friends rallied around him and travelled to visit with him just to sit with him in his grief.

Job 2:11 Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, each one came from his own place—Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment together to come and mourn with him, and to comfort him.

They provided amazing comfort until they opened their mouths.

Each and every one of God’s children as we go about our daily business will come across human wreckage where people we know are in pain.

We can pray for them, we can provide some practical means of assistance and we can reach out to them just to let them know that the God who comforts us desires and can comfort them also. Be wise when you step out in this ministry, be in the shadows, but do reach out.

The Bible tells us this about our Lord the God of comfort , Matthew 10:29 What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.
