Daily devotion – Sexual sin and its domination in today’s world.

Pastor Keith   -

2Pe 2:6
and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;

Jde 1:7
as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Our world is caught up in a whirlpool of sexual sin. It is rampant and there seems no boundaries as to how low humanity can descend to in its desire to satisfy a lust that is abominable.

The people who were judged in Sodom and Gomorrah did not occasionally commit fornication. They did not occasionally commit unnatural sexual sins; they indulged in them and gave themselves over to the pursuit of lust.

The Greek verb used here is ‘intensive’ to indulge in excessive immorality. This was their way of life – and death!

God’s judging of these people in these cities was set forth as an example and warning to ungodly people today.

No one can read Genesis 18-19 without clearly seeing God’s hatred for sin and, at the same time His patience and willingness to postpone judgment.

Peter speaks of this in 2 Peter 3:8.

What can you and I do today as followers of Christ living in a whirlwind of perverse intent for lust?

1. We must know the Word of God and have the courage to defend it. Every Bible teaching local Church ought to be a Bible institute, and every Christian ought to be a Bible student. The pulpit needs to declare positive truth as well as denounce error.
2. We must watch and pray – the enemy is already here, and we dare not go to sleep! Each time some one offers to teach Sunday school, Youth or serve in any capacity, the Church must exercise great discernment that they are people of faith and faithfulness.
3. As stewards of God’s resources, we are to be very careful where we send our money.
4. We must have the courage to maintain a position of biblical separation from those who deny Christ and the fundamental doctrines of the Word.

This does not mean that we separate from fellow believers over minor doctrinal differences, or that we practice ‘guilt by association’.

God’s true army needs to stand together in the Battle for truth.

Where do you stand in this battle?
