Daily devotion – the very young

Pastor Keith   -

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

This week I noticed a young boy being taught how to be part of the media team by Noah. Firstly, what a joy it is to see this young man with a desire to serve God and not just attend Church. It reveals that his heart is filled with good soil and we now have the privilege of helping him be filled with the word of God and prayer.

In addition, Noah who was watching over him and instructing him is still a young man himself but because of His walk with God, God has enabled Him to be an example to the other young boys in Church.

Secondly, this young boy’s capability and desire to serve reveals to us that age is not a barrier to being a servant of God in the Church of God. We all remember the child Samuel and everyone knows that David was only a youth when he took on the enemy of Israel, Goliath and dispatched him with the enabling of God.

Each time we make known of a ministry opportunity here at Calvary either by announcement or printed in the bulletin, I am so thrilled when our younger saints lead the way to fill that need.

To us who are older, are we missing out on God’s precious opportunities here. Are we too busy, too grown up, too far above serving where our youngest saints are filling the breach?

As a pastor I know the true joy and privilege of serving God and His Church. If you have never been a servant of God or are not currently serving here at CCSH, I ask that you pray and seek God and follow the path of those who have smaller feet than yourselves.

Lastly This touching observation underscores the profound impact that service and mentorship have within the church community, especially among the younger members. It’s inspiring to see both young individuals stepping up to serve and more seasoned members supporting and nurturing these young spirits. This dynamic fosters a vibrant, intergenerational community where everyone, regardless of age, can contribute their gifts and grow in faith together.

Such examples remind us that the church isn’t just a place to attend but a living community to actively engage in. For those who may feel hesitant or believe they have little to offer, let this story of Noah and the young boy be a call to action. Everyone has something to give, and every role, no matter how seemingly small, is vital to the life of the church.

Reflecting on this, consider how you might step into a role of service or mentorship within your own church or community. Not only could you be helping others, but you might also find your own faith and purpose invigorated in new and unexpected ways.

1Ti 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
