Daily devotion – what are you leaving…?

Pastor Keith   -

Abraham is that rare example of someone who lived their life to the full! Yet this man’s walk with God did not commence until he was 75 years of age. His life after that was one adventure with God after another.

In chapter 25 we find Abraham marrying a new wife, whose name is Keturah. Abraham does not stop with getting another wife, he with Keturah have six children.

As Abraham’s life was coming to its finality, as a responsible father, he makes plans for the distribution of his wealth.

5 And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. 6 But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.

In our selfish society of today, many people are buying into the mentality that we should live only for today and let our kids take care of their future by themselves. But the Bible says the opposite.

2 Cor 12:14…… For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

Consider what it would mean to your children if you had a legally signed will and an adequate insurance package. Your care for your family can extend far beyond your death.

And not just monetarily. What kind of emotional and spiritual inheritance are you laying up for them? Are you involved in making life a little brighter, happier and more fulfilling for your family? Are they enjoying the fruits of your labour?

Are they learning generosity through your example?

Lasting impressions linger in the minds of people who benefit from a generous godly hand!

Each of your children, not just those who are struggling, should enjoy the work of your labours and God’s blessings over your life!
