Daily devotion – simply teaching the Bible simply!

Pastor Keith   -

Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour has printed on the inside of its bulletin the following, “Simply teaching the Bible simply!” All Calvary Chapel Churches adhere to teaching the Bible in an expository manner. That is taking the Bible literally and teaching it book by book, chapter by chapter and verse by verse. This is the manner which is found in the Bible itself in the book of Nehemiah 8:8 – So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

The Bible was written to be understood with the guidance of the Holy Spirit opening our eyes and ears to hear God speak to us. How many times we find in the Word of God the following words, He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

This is not talking about our physical ears but having our hearts renewed by the grace of God that enables every born-again believer to now understand and know the Word of God.

Jesus told a religious Jew by the name of Nicodemus that he needed to be born again so that he may understand the things of God – Jhn 3:10 Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?

I tried to understand the Bible before I was saved but just could not fathom its teaching. Yet as soon as I had received Christ, it was as if scales fell from my eyes and I was able to read the Bible and understand it!

It is through God’s Word that God wills and desires to speak to you – Hebrews 11: 1 Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son.

This week as you open the Bible, remember to pray and ask God to give you understanding, to speak to your heart as you read it. The Bible is the Word of God, God breathed, and not just another book, it is God’s letter to you and I, written to reveal the great salvation that is available to each of us through His Son Jesus Christ.

Read it an allow the simple message of the Gospel and grace of God to fill your heart and enrich your soul.
