Daily devotion – the mission!
Mar 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
Mar 16:16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
A few years back, every company had a mission statement, every government department had one as well and it was seen to be the ‘must have’ to be able to identify why your business existed and what its ultimate purpose was.
Like the business world, the Churches who had bought into the whole consumerism world, were marketing and survey driven, jumped in with both feet and had such ‘mission statements’ for their Church.
Let us never forget, the Church is not a business, nor is it a company, or an institution that is driven by marketing strategies or worldly systems and structures! It’s the body of Christ with Jesus Christ, the Son of God as its head – Chief Shepherd!
May we as Christians, never lose sight of what our mission is, Jesus gave it to us prior to His leaving to be at the right hand of the Father.
When we the Church or as individual believers stray from this we end up in no man’s land.
Yes, witnessing to unbelievers is not easy, but it is the mission that Christ has given to every believer. Jesus never sends us on a mission that He will not enable us to be able to accomplish.
We go astray and lose confidence when we mistakenly make the results of the mission as to whether we are failing in our mission. The results are in God’s hands. Neither you or I were given the mission to save souls. That only God can do by His Holy Spirit!
But we each can certainly proclaim the Gospel, in other words, tell people about what Christ has done in our lives and what He has made available to every person on the planet by His death and Resurrection.
Stay the course. Stick with the mission God has given us. Leave the results to Him, but by all means, share the Gospel – this is why the Church exists!
This is the mission – Matthew 28: 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen
