This week at Calvary Welcome to Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour this Sunday. We have the privilege of partaking in Communion (the Lord’s Supper) together this morning. Parents, please use your discretion with respect to your son/daughter participation in this sacrament. If you would like prayer after the services, please see one of the Elders or Pastors at the conclusion of the service at the front of the sanctuary. Next weekend, the 12th of May, we have our special Mother’s Day service. As a consequence of it being Mother’s Day, there will be no evening service on the 12th of May to allow opportunity for visiting with family. We continue to seek servants who want to be a blessing here at CCSH by being part of the ministry teams. Simply fill in a Connection Card available at our information desk at the entrance of the Church and place it in our offering container. You will notice that we do not take up an offering, but we have an offering box available for you at the left rear of the sanctuary for you to place your tithes and offerings. We place a heavy emphasis on prayer here at Calvary and invite you to join us each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm as we gather to intercede for our nation, our Church, and our families. The encouragement is again extended to men to step forward to be Sunday school teachers here at CCSH. This is a ministry that can impact a child’s life for eternity – do you have the gift of teaching; do you know the Word of God? Be a blessing and fill this precious ministry.
From the Pastors Desk (sermon notes/synopsis) – Grace Through The Bad
In the unpredictable ebb and flow of life, we often find ourselves questioning the fairness of our circumstances—particularly when adversity strikes seemingly without reason. Genesis 26, through this morning’s sermon “Grace through the Bad”, challenges us to shift our perspective from wondering why bad things happen to good people, to understanding how God moves within the trials faced by His people.
Isaac, the child of promise, inherited not only Abraham’s blessings but also a life speckled with challenges. From struggles with infertility to family discord and famine in what was supposed to be the Promised Land, Isaac’s life was far from the serene existence one might expect for a chosen one of God. Yet, these narratives aren’t just historical recounts; they resonate with our own experiences of unexpected hardships.
This passage, and indeed the lives of many biblical figures, illustrate that being in God’s favour does not exempt us from difficulty. Instead, it promises something profoundly deeper. Despite the complexities and pains of life, God’s presence offers an unyielding support and grace. In Isaac’s story, as in our own lives, God reiterates His promises and companionship amidst our trials, not as a removal of obstacles but as a profound presence through them.
Therefore, when faced with the “why” of our struggles, we are reminded that God’s grace does not always shield us from difficulty but rather, ensures His steadfast presence through every storm—a grace that transforms trials into testimonies of faith and resilience.
Reflective Questions:
- Personal Trials: Reflect on a challenging situation you’ve faced recently. In what ways can you see God’s presence with you during this time, even if the difficulty has not been removed?
- God’s Promises: Consider the promises God has made in the scriptures. How can these promises change your perspective or approach to the hardships you’re experiencing?
- Grace and Growth: Think about a time when you experienced God’s grace in an unexpected way following a personal mistake or sin. How did this experience of receiving unearned favour impact your relationship with God and your understanding of His grace?
Grace Giving
2Co 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. We encourage all of you who are part of our Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour Fellowship family to give without obligation but with a cheerful heart of worship. Your gifts allow God’s work to be done in our surrounding communities. Located on the eastern side of the sanctuary is a container for your grace giving.
