Daily devotion – The God of mercy and grace.

Pastor Keith   -

When illness strikes a loved one we are driven to prayer, to seeking God for His grace and power to heal them. In the Medical World, great strides have been made for the curing and treatment of diseases and conditions that years ago meant certain death.

But I have sat in the intensive ward waiting rooms at every major hospital with family members awaiting to hear about their critically ill loved one. Many times, the Neurosurgeon or other brilliant medical specialists have come in to meet the family with an often-repeated set of words.

“We have done all we can, we now must wait to see if they will make it through the next few hours.” I remember the first time I heard those words I was a little taken back. I thought surely, they, the specialist medical team, will have more information than that. Surely, they have a more succinct knowledge of what the outcome will be.

But I have learned over the years that there is still so little we know about sickness and cures for the human body. I am so glad that as a Christian there is more, we can do than just sit and worry.

At times, not often enough sadly, the surgeon or medical representative has said, “If you are people of prayer, now is a good time to do just that!”

The stark reality of our own frailty is found out when illness strikes. When all the medical world has done their best and they have nothing more to offer.

Aren’t you glad that you can call on the name of the Lord at such times. No, not everybody who is prayed for is healed or survives. But it is at such times that God moves according to His will and plan. But His will always brings with it His comfort, His grace to help us through such a storm.

Jer 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Let us remember that nothing can separate us from the Love of God – Rom 8:38
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Whenever you find yourself in a place of concern about a sick loved one, remember you are not alone. God will be with you. He will strengthen you when you call on Him for help! Let us with confidence place our sick love ones in His care.
