Daily devotion – the wonder that is prayer!
As I write this devotion it is Wednesday afternoon, and we are heading towards prayer tonight at the chapel.
Questions come to my mind, what is it tonight that the Lord desires us to focus on in our prayers? What is the Lord’s heart for us here at Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour?
Paul writes to Timothy and gives him solid instruction on the things each Church should include in their corporate prayer meeting.
1 Timothy 2:1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
But there are times in our lives and the life of the Church where we are not sure which direction to take. What decision to make. We just don’t know how to pray at that time.
Thankfully the Bible helps us when we face such moments as Paul instructs us in the book of Romans 8: 26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Sometimes we make too much of the do’s and don’ts of prayer that we cease to pray as God desires of us – to come to Him with open faithful hearts and pour out our hearts with the knowledge that God will hear us and will answer our prayers according to His will.
Prayer, remember is speaking to God, it is going to Him and seeking to hear His voice, praise His name and bring our petitions yes, but most importantly, love to be with Him.
Will you talk with He who loves you today? Will you thank Him and praise Him? Let us not miss the sheer wonder and joy of prayer in itself!
